The politically correct dribble being spewed out at "viewers"isnt worth tuning into anyhow, what ever happened to having a choice of what you watched .The only choice now is to chabge channels and watch a differnt version of some sanitised non-violent re-run.

I recall the days of TV Licences & Trucks patroling streets, looking for unlicensed TV users. A knock on the door,& "Can you show me your TV Licence?" You were done if you couldn't. Do we really want to return to Those Days? It WILL Happen with Pay TV. When All TV goes Digital,I will not bother even owning a TV. We are Better Off WITHOUT It!!!

Flash news... Pay TV was a rip off since day one.

I had it for 4 years in the late 90's.
2 years with Optus and 2 years with Foxtel.

When I started going back to the video store... I knew I was wasting my money with Pay TV.

Agree Foxtel is a rip-off. My daughter didn't renew her contract - a waste of money.

I do agree that foxtel ripped off. They are bad service. I've been with foxtel for 7 years (premium package) and disconnect. After I disconnect foxtel, they still charge my bill every month. I called them and they said sorry with no explanation. I dont think they are worth it to watch.

Rip off

We got it because I work night shift & thought that I would get to watch NCIS, Law & Order etc only to find out that they are still in series 1 or 2 we dont even have the new girl, Kate is still on NCIS.
Repeats, repeats, repeats its the same show over & over again.
They seem to have started moving shows around, I was just getting into Heros on a Friday at lunch now its gone & the Tudors I started that from the start during the day now its gone as well.
trying to find out when shows are on is a pian as well the Foxtel mag doesnt have programs for ALL channels.
I agree the ads can drive you crazy they dont offer info, they just advertise their own channels as well as adds that we get on free to air is a joke, I thought that was why we paid for foxtel (NO ADS)
Our package is up in a 12 months dont know if we will keep it.

Re:Who Thinks Pay TV is a RIP OFF? Reply to this message
IT IS A RIP OFF!

My personal view.

A lot of us Aussies are brain dead, we take what's dished out to us and take it as gospel like sheep, we are so far behind with services and technology and big business is more interested in making profit on their profit rather than venturing into new territory.

Pay Tv - It's only as worth as each individual sees it.

You are not told when you sign up about the constant interruptions during the program you have paid for.
Called and complained about it and the bimbo told me that they don't make a huge profit and they need the funding from their sponsors. Strange that most of the commercial breaks are them promoting their own programs which they unnecessarily repeat over and over during the show.

Their movies have been out on DVD way before they air them.
I rather rent as you have more of a selection and you can pick and choose.
Internet programming is not always up to scratch as alot is compressed ok if you are not into quality.

The programs themselves are repeated over and over again regardless if you do shift work they are repeated unnecessarily, seems they are just filling for time.
It also seems to be the place where old tv shows go to retire after they've had their stint and finished on commercial television also they may show back to back six episodes of Friends ok if you like the show but I don't so why should I pay for it.

Best thing to do is check out for the month the new programming that you are getting and see if it's worth the ratio for what you are paying.
If it is that good then why lock you into a contract?
Like a lot of people say you should only pay for what you want.

I don't watch a great deal of tv but when I do I expect quality rather than just mindless eye fodder.

Ps. For those with their new widescreen television not all movies played are displayed in their correct aspect ratio only 4.3. and for those interested they say high definition but is it full high definition 1080?

I feel ripped off. I just got it 2 weeks ago and with the IQ. Thought we would try planning and recording and were totally pi$-$ed off that some of the shows were not aired on time and the ending wasn't recorded It may sound petty to some but hey I like to get what I pay for.

Re:Who Thinks Pay TV is a RIP OFF? Reply to this message
pay tv is not a rip off. i have had it since 2007 and since then, normal tv has gotten worse than ever. who would want to see corey enter the big brother house. if you ask me, pay tv is worth it. foxtel has a greater range of programming, and sure it is a lot of reruns. but that is only on entertainment channels (are there reruns of the news?). another thing, with movies on normal tv, if a movie comes out on dvd in 2005, you have to wait until about 2007/8 to watch it. where as on foxtel, it is pretty much instant.

it is defintly NOT A RIP OFF

Re:Who Thinks Pay TV is a RIP OFF? Reply to this message
I have been a Foxtell costumer for some time now and I have put up with their inferior product for that time, first there analogue had poor sound and picture quality and then they brought out digital, the picture improved marginally put the sound quality stayed the same now they are trying to sell me IQ 2 which is HD they want $200 upfront and $15 monthly on top of my monthly bill which is $135 just for 3 or 4 HD stations which are the same as the digital ,I can get channel 7 and 10 HD for no extra cost I don’t understand why I should pay extra just because they are trying to keep up with free to air and to fix their inferior product .I like to know if I am the only person that feels like they are getting ripped off, I think they will have to replace all there Foxtel boxes to HD eventually because they will stop making the old ones.

It is expensive you don't really need it that much it is just like regular television but it has more channels but for a wealthy rich it man it would not bother him or for old folk that can afford to get it then it is not that bad to have or get.

If you can afford it like quite easily then it is o.k but if you just get past then it was not worth it.

I do agree I think that they should charge a price per channnel like $1 or $2 that way you can pick and choose what you want rather than have a heap of channels that you never watch a thing on.I had it years ago then stopped for 8 years, just got it back on see nothing much has changed, waiting for contract to end too.

A suggestion... there is a new paytv company called Select TV. You pay 1 price and get the same channels as Foxtel. Ok, its not all of them but you get a good range. The price is $39 per month and it connects into your Foxtel wall adaptor.

The music is on between 1am and 5am so insomniacs are the real fans of music on mtv i guess. Mtv Australia should take a look at what Channel V did, which was following the same pattern as MTV in the U.S. Once Channel V's schedule started to have a fair amount of television shows rather then just music, Channel V 2 appeared which just plays music 24/7 to ensure there was always music on. MTV Australia has become like a VH1 channel for people aged between 12 to 20.

I'm tired of reality shows ! Almost every fox channel has atleast 2 or 3 now and MTV is the biggest offender: The Hills, Laguna Beach, My Sweet 16, Date my Mom, Scarred. MTV is the biggest rip off there is. Where is the music ?????

The shows you like or the really top entertainment are on once or twice and then gone, but the silliest shows live there like forever or they jump channels and are announced as premieres.
Also the signal plays up when it feels like it so the quality varies.
Pay TV is the pits and I can't wait for my two year contract to expire.
New customers beware, lots of repeats and once you sign you are just another paying number, happy or not.

Good Channels-
TV1, Arena, FOX8, Comedy Channel, Showtime, FOX SPORTS, V, MTV.
