| I thought "Lassie Come Home" (original) was the saddest movie, followed by "Green Mile". |

What about the beach scene between Mel Gibson and Skye McCole Bartusiak in the Patriot. When he is leaving again and she calls out "papa dont leave I will say anything you want" something like that. Being a father and having a daughter well that scene just gets to me.

| The saddest film that I ever watched is the original "The Ghost and Mrs Muir" with Rex Harrison and I think Blythe Danner. It states that love is eternal - even after death. I always get a lump in my throat when I think of the end - and the question that always comes to mind is 'did she kick the gas valve by accident or design". Just love it. |

| The Ken Loach film "Family Life" (1971) was really sad. I remember first seeing it on TV when I was a teenager and it really freaked me out. It's about a young girl who ends up as an unresponsive, paranoid mute in a mental hospital. Her domineering parents keep treating her like there's something wrong with her, like she's not normal, when she's just trying to assert her independence against them and the psychiatrists they force her to see. The parents can't relate to her and it's really them who are screwed up, them and the system. It's a bit of a hippy era movie, but sad and a bit frightening. Ken Loach's best I reckon. |

"Do You Remember Love" (1985)
Barbara Wyatt-Hollis is an English professor who begins to fall under the effects of Alzheimer's. The film documents her decline and the emotional turmoil it causes for her. It also show how the changes impact her husband, George, and their children. The film also looks at the process by which families can be educated and supported to deal with the impact of the disease, as well what is done for those afflicted
When my sister worked in a video library, she had an enquiry from a recently diagnose woman trying to find a copy of the film.
As it was not released on video my sister brought in her own personal copy to lend to her, taped from the tele.
On a lighter note, my sister later pondered....
I hope she remembers who she borrowed it from |

"More than 20 years ago I saw a film called "Summer Solstice". It starred Henry Fonda and Myrna Loy. It was about an elderly couple who have returned to a special place for them every year on the Summer Solstice. For one of them, the visit this particular year turns out to be their last."
Point of interest....
Despite his acclaimed perfomance in, and the similar subject matter of "On Golden Pond", "Summer Soltace" was also Fonda's last film.
Yes very touching
Shame it's not run more often |

Now, I'm justv as blokey as the next bloke, and seeing as some people have mentioned TV, I feel that special mention must go to an episode of Futurama (Yes, that's right - Futurama)
The episode is called Jurassic Bark and it's the one where Fry finds the remains of his old dog. He's convinced that his dog forgot about him when he left, but there's a montage at the end showing his dog sitting faithfully on the curb, waiting year after year for him to come home.
Actually managed to bring a lump to my cold, manly throat. |

Man on fire the saddest movie and also one of the best movies of all time, a real emotional roller coaster of a movie, classic!
The 'family man' is a great sad movie as well. What if?
'for the love of the game'
'jersey girl'
'raise your voice'
'love actually' especially when he knocks on his best mate's wife's door.
'miracle' I cry when he's looking for his mum at the end.
'we are marshall' saw that other day very sad.
'notting girl' always cry when julia is standing in front of hugh telling him she's just a girl.....
'black hawk down' at the end when standing in front of his mate's coffin.
'the killing fields' when they are re-united.
'a beautiful mind' his speech to his wife.
'how to lse a guy in 10 days' sad for personal reasons at the family card game scene. |
